PRIORITY DISPATCH RULE CHANGE

The curtailment order changes, as early as FY2026.

FIT plants in the Kyushu area face a sharp projected rise in output curtailment, and the more curtailment, the lower your power revenue. Ahead of the rule change, now is the time to consider a sale.

WHY NOW

Why consider selling now.

Rule changes and shifting market conditions could cut plant profitability sharply from here. To catch the moment when a plant still sells well, start by understanding where yours stands today.

Does any of this sound familiar?

POINT 1

Uneasy about rule changes

Under the revised priority dispatch rules, FIT solar moves up the curtailment order. Kyushu FIT solar is projected to go from roughly 6% curtailment today to around 33%, which could take about 30% off power revenue. (Our estimate, from published Kyushu Electric and METI material.)

POINT 2

Worried curtailment keeps climbing

Strong sunshine and heavy renewable build-out mean Kyushu curtails earlier and harder than anywhere else in Japan. FY2024 saw 128 curtailment days, and FY2025 had already reached 54 by the end of July, ahead of the prior year. More generation is being thrown away unsold every year.

POINT 3

Maintenance and ageing equipment

Panel output falls by at least 0.5% a year, roughly 4.9% over a decade. Add deferred maintenance and ageing components and efficiency drops further while failure risk rises, accelerating the decline in revenue.

POINT 4

Ready to realise the cash

A plant that has paid back its initial investment can sell well, given the right timing. Moving ahead of the rule change means transacting before listings flood the market, avoiding the price drop that follows.

PRIORITY DISPATCH

FIT and FIP split in the curtailment order.

After the change, FIT generation is curtailed before FIP within solar and wind. The longer a plant stays on FIT, the more sales opportunity it loses.
